Oz Vessalius is a nefarious blond demon masquerading as an innocent child.
Granted, the majority of Oz's friends have long since figured that out. And after the last birthday party Oz planned for Kevin, he'd known he wasn't getting away with any surprises again. Which was fine by him, really--it's no fun pulling the same trick twice.
So this year, he's gone a different route. With Hibiki in the house, his brotherly tendencies are out in full force, and there's no better time to spoil her than a birthday celebration. With everything she's been through, he doesn't want to startle her too badly, so actual surprises are off the table for the time being. Thus, the lead-up to her "surprise" birthday party has been filled with blatantly dropped hints, conspicuously hidden piles of gifts, and loudly whispered conversations about birthday cake when she's around. Her boss and coworkers had been more than happy to lend a hand (and the space), and decorations may or may not have begun to spring up before Hibiki even finished her shift for the day. It hadn't been difficult to figure out who she might want to celebrate with, and between Oz and Kevin, telepathic invitations and messenger birds had made it to all relevant parties.
And indeed, from the look of things, this is a celebration solely for Hibiki. It's being held at her workplace. The decorations are in her favorite colors. Most of the guests are here for her sake. Even the most prominent of the two birthday cakes has her name on it, while the other lacks writing entirely. But of course, Oz wouldn't be Oz if there wasn't something more to all this.
Hibiki's birthday, it just so happens, falls very close to Kevin's birthday. So throughout the planning of Hibiki's party, Oz has been quietly gathering gifts for the swordsman, too. There will be no surprise party for Kevin this year, not unless one of his other friends decides to throw it. No, this year, Oz has decided to keep things a little closer to home.
So he's invited some of Kevin's friends too, yes. And the second cake is decorated in Kevin's favorite colors. But those are the only obvious signs that this party is for him too. The real celebration will come once they're all settled back home in the parlor, when Oz brings out the gifts he'd collected from Kevin's friends and hidden away. Because he is a nefarious blond demon masquerading as an innocent child.
But hey, at least there's cake.
